Kudos to Western Water Constructors, Inc. for successfullly completing a $54.5 million wasterwater treatment plant for the Ironhouse Sanitary District (ISD) in Oakley, Calif., on-time, on-budget and with an exemplary safety record.

Wastewater treatment facility for the Ironhorse Sanitary District completed by merit shop contractor without a PLA.

This large infrastructure project was completed without an anti-competitive and costly government-mandated project labor agreement (PLA) and provided value to ISD users and the local economy.

TheTruthAboutPLAs.com agrees with the sentiment communicated in the below press release from Western Water Constructors:

Western Water believes successful projects are bid with open and fair competition, delivered on time, on budget, and delivered SAFELY. This successful project for ISD is another example of how taxpayers benefit from a competitive bidding process that allows contractors to work, side by side regardless of union affilation, without a project labor agreement.

When PLA proponents claim PLA mandates are needed to ensure quality and safe construction, remember this project and similar projects built by experienced merit shop contractors and their skilled nonunion craftspeople.  In California’s construction industry, just 16.9 percent belong to a union and benefit from PLA mandates.

Congratulations to Western Water’s apprentices, journeymen and management for a job well done.

• How changes to the project were negotiated fairly and in a timely manner, resulting in low change orders and no claims on the project.

Western Water believes successful projects are bid with open and fair competition, delivered on time, on budget, and delivered SAFELY.
